Fact Check: Did Actor Ashutosh Rana Urge Voting for BJP? Here’s the Reality

Every day, fake news quickly spreads on social media sites, making people think things that aren’t true. These stories can be about any ongoing debate, the news, politicians, or regular people. Users who don’t know any better often believe them and share them without question. We’re here to warn you about fake news and other information that could be harmful. In the most recent case, there is a video that is said to be of star Ashutosh Rana telling people to vote for the BJP. That being said, we have found that this claim is false after a thorough study.

What is going viral?

A user called @Heisenbergbec shared a video on the social media site X that showed actor Ashutosh Rana reading a poem. In the background, there were lotus flowers with the letters “BJP” written on them. The video has a description that says, “#VoteForBJP, you vote, Ashutosh Rana’s call to vote for BJP.”

Fact check

We used keywords linked to the claim in the viral post to do a search on Google. You can find news stories about the claim on almost all reputable news websites and sources online, but none of them had anything relevant to our search. It was after that that we went to the main websites of the Indian government that post news.

As we looked into it, we found a video on the actor’s official social media account that was exactly the same as the video that went popular. More research showed that this video was made in November 2023. In it, the character asked people to vote for the good of the country without naming a party. In the whole poem, the character never talked about a party. Also, our research did not find any campaign messages or ads from the actor that supported the BJP.

It’s not true that star Ashutosh Rana asked people to vote for the BJP as some people said on social media.
