Fact check: AI-Generated Video Falsely Depicts Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal ‘Singing in Jail

A video with several pictures of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the sound of a Hindi song is going around on social media.

What does the video show?

It has several still pictures of Kejriwal, including one of him standing with a microphone and a guitar and playing the guitar in a prison cell while being ringed by police. In another picture, he seems to be performing in front of his wife, Sunita Kejriwal.

The claim

People are sharing the video with the claim that it shows Kejriwal singing in jail.

Who shared it?

This video was shared by Richa Rajpoot, who is in charge of social media for the BJP Youth Wing in Uttar Pradesh, and Brijesh Rai, who works for the BJP in Delhi.

The video’s images and the sound of Kejriwal singing a Bollywood song both sound like they were made by AI.

How do we know?

We saw that the movie had a watermark that said “PaltuPaltann” on it.

We followed this lead and looked up these words. We found an Instagram account with the same name.

It shared the video that went popular on March 30 with several hashtags, such as “memes,” “AI,” and “songs.”

This means that the song could have been made with AI tools.

We put the video through an AI audio detector by “AI or Not.” It said it was “likely AI generated,” which means there is a 76% chance that it was made by AI.

AI-generated visuals

The video also has some strange visual effects that suggest the pictures may have been made with artificial intelligence (AI) software.

One example is that Kejriwal’s hair, face, and clothes in this picture look too smooth.

Besides that, it looks like his hand goes through the microphone stand.

This picture also has mistakes; his left hand looks like it has an odd amount of fingers but more than one thumb.

When you look at the picture of the leader with Sunita Kejriwal, his face is smooth and fuzzy, but Sunita’s face is clear but her body is not.

A picture in the movie shows someone who does not look like Kejriwal.

Lastly, there are problems with the picture of Kejriwal in a cell with a guitar.

Both Kejriwal and the police officer who can only be seen in part are shown with faces that aren’t straight.

The metal bars behind him are also not straight, and neither are the guitar strings.
