Fact check: Misleading Claim on Challenged Votes Spreads Rapidly Before Elections

The dates for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 have been revealed. The very important election will start on April 19. Online, there is a lot of fake news going around before the elections. To try to keep you from getting false and fake news. The most recent case of fake news has to do with the polls for Lok Sabha. People are sharing a newspaper article on social media that says people who don’t vote will have Rs 350 taken out of their bank accounts. The election is in less than two weeks. It has been shown that this claim is not true at all.

What is the viral newspaper cutting?

A newspaper clipping that went viral on social media said that people who don’t vote in the upcoming polls will have Rs 350 taken out of their accounts. It also said that people who don’t have a bank account will have money taken out of their recharged cell phones.

This newspaper clipping was shared on social media by a person named Sachin Kumar. A Facebook user called Viraj Rawat shared a similar post at the same time. He wrote, “Individual freedom also ends; Rs 350 will be taken out of your account for not voting.”

Newspaper claim?

There was a newspaper cutting going around that said people would lose Rs 350 if they didn’t vote in the Lok Sabha polls. First, we used Google Open Search to look for news about the problem by typing in keywords.

Of course, we couldn’t find any news that said Rs 350 would be taken out of the account for not voting elsewhere. After that, we used social media and keywords to find. We found a text from the Election Commission on April 2, 2024, as soon as we did this. In this tweet, the poll body shared the newspaper clip that went popular and said it was fake. There has been no such ruling made by the Election Commission. The commission has said that this claim is false.

What was found in Fact Check?

A fact check was done. The piece of newspaper that is going popular on social media is not real at all. No one will have Rs 350 taken out of their account to vote. People are told to be careful of these fake posts. But the people must use their right to vote.
