Fact Check: Debunking Decade-Old Video Viral Amidst Kashmir’s Flash Floods

Floods in the northern parts of Kashmir were caused by heavy rains in late April. The rains damaged houses and roads. People walking through flooded streets are shown in several clips on a video that has now gone viral.

It is said that these clips showed the recent rains in Kashmir. Someone on Facebook shared the video with the words “Deadly flooding in Kashmir.” A lot of other people shared the same video and said the same thing. Here is a list of all the posts that went popular.

Our Probe

With the help of a keyword search, we found the video that went viral on the Associated Press’s YouTube account. On September 4, 2014, the video was put up. Based on what the film said, it showed the valley of Kashmir being hit by the worst flood in 22 years in September of that year.

The Kashmir floods of 2014 did a lot of damage to the valley. More than 300 people died and thousands of homes were destroyed. Many people lost money because of the floods, according to a story from Greater Kashmir.

At least five people have died so far in the latest floods in Kashmir. The video of the April 29 flash floods in Kupwara.

So, it’s clear that the movie that went viral has nothing to do with the recent floods.
