Fact Check: Debunking the Viral Video of PM Modi Holding Rabindranath Tagore Portrait Upside-Down

A lot of people on social media are sharing pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepting an upside-down painting of Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore.

The claim: PM Modi was working in West Bengal for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The pictures are being shared as a jab at him.

Who shared it?: A video of the event was shared by the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). Sagarika Ghose, an MP for the party, also shared a picture of the prime minister carrying the piece of art backwards.

Is it true?: The video is trimmed, so the images aren’t what they seem to be.
