When he was running for office, did Prime Minister Narendra Modi call the people of Karnataka “sinners”? As people got ready for the third round of the Lok Sabha polls, a lot of people on social media shared a video of PM Modi saying the same thing. In it, Modi can be heard telling people to punish the “Karnataka waalon” for sinning during the polls.

Someone who shared the video on Facebook said, “As expected, he is now attacking an entire state, not even the people who voted for BJP.” He is asking the smart people of the whole state with the phrase “Ye Karnataka wolo ne jo paap kiya hai.” From its past, you can see this.

The film has been cut. Not the people of Karnataka, but the Congress party could be seen being criticized in the whole film.

OUR PROBE

We found an Asianet News story with a screenshot of the viral video by looking backwards through keyframes from the video. At a gathering on April 28 in Belagavi, Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was said to have said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was insulting Hindu kings and praising Muslim rulers, among other things.

With this clue, we were able to find the live stream of the rally on PM Modi’s YouTube account. At the 32-minute mark in this movie, you can see the part of the meme clip. The prime minister had just said that the Congress party had betrayed the farmers of Karnataka before making this comment.

“The Congress has betrayed the farmers here, and that is a terrible sin.” When the BJP was in charge, Rs 10,000 would be put into the bank accounts of farms. Since it took office, the Congress government has not paid Rs 4,000. The votes went to them. They no longer care about the farmers. Modi now only sends Rs 6,000 to farmers. They took some of it. Modi told them, “But you will still get the money through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi.”

Then he said the thing that went viral. This proved that Modi wasn’t talking about the people of Karnataka when he said “Karnataka waalon.” His real point was to talk about the Congress government in the state.

There were also a lot of news stories about this gathering. The Deccan Herald reported that PM Modi said this about the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme. In it, he said that the Congress had let down the farmers.

At the same rally, Modi also criticized Rahul Gandhi for supposedly insulting Hindu kings while ignoring the terrible crimes done by Muslim rulers. He also said that Congress put appeasement first while crimes and horrible things were happening in the state.

It is clear that a cut-out video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was shared to make it look like he said that the people of Karnataka were sinful.
