Fact Check: PM Modi’s Laptop Distribution Scheme for Students – Separating Truth from Fiction

Just as quickly as social media spreads information, it also spreads fake news, which can trick people who have trouble telling the difference between truth and lies. Similarly, there is a story going around on the internet that says PM Narendra Modi started the Prime Minister Free Laptop Scheme 2024. But our research has shown that this claim is not true.
What is the claim?
There is a Google page called “PM Yojana Adda” that says the Indian government is giving all students free laptops. There is all the news on this page. Title of the story: “[Free] PM Yojana Adda 2024 Laptop” Indian government is giving away free laptops to all students as part of a scheme called Yojana.
According to the news, the All India Council for Technical Education has started a program called the Prime Minister Free Laptop Yojana 2024. This program will give computers to students across the country who are struggling financially so that they can finish college. The website doesn’t say when applications can start, but it does say that the last date “will be available soon.” www.aicte-india.org is the address of the main page.
India TV did investigation
If we thought the claims on this website were not true, India TV’s fact-checking team began their investigation. We started by going to the given website address, which turned out to be the All India Council for Technical Education’s main website. But, even though we looked everywhere, we couldn’t find anything about this plan. In the meantime, we found a letter from AICTE that told us the truth about this.
The letter says that AICTE has confirmed that the rumors about the Prime Minister’s Free Laptop Scheme for Students were not true. It said that recently, a number of false news stories have been posted on online news sites claiming the start of such a plan. These stories tell students that they can apply for this scheme through a link to the AICTE website, but neither the Indian government nor AICTE have started any such scheme. People should be careful when reading these kinds of stories because they might be false and trick students and parents.
What came out in investigation?
A news website said that the Indian government is giving all students free computers as part of a program called the “Prime Minister Free Laptop Scheme.” But after looking into it, we found that this claim is not true at all.
