“No Vote to BJP” Videos on Social Media: Old Footage Unrelated to 2024 Elections

People are asking people not to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party in two videos that are going around social media before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The videos show several people holding up and passing around a sign that says “No Vote to BJP.”

Different social media accounts, such as SP Prahari, the official X account for the Samajwadi Party, have shared the images.

But…? Both films are old and have nothing to do with the 2024 General Elections.

How did we find out? The Factofied checked the facts of one of the videos when it was shared last year with a similar claim. People mistakenly linked it to the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.

The movie we found was an attempt to get people not to vote for the BJP in the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2021. It was shared in April of that year.

It was first posted on April 2, 2021, on a YouTube account called “No Vote to BJP.”

Conclusion:

People on social media are sharing two old, unrelated videos of a campaign in West Bengal to get people not to vote. They are connecting them to the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
